Gatwick airport information

London Gatwick airport (LGW) lies 30 miles (48 km) south of central London.

Gatwick is smaller than London Heathrow, with just two terminals – North and South.

Getting to London Gatwick

Gatwick Express: The Gatwick Express is a high-speed train that takes you into Victoria station. The journey takes around 30–35 minutes, and runs every fifteen minutes between 5.50AM–12.35AM (every 30 minutes at night). Trains from Victoria start at 5AM and finish at 11.45PM. Southern Trains: Southern operates a normal overland train between Gatwick and Central London, stopping at several places on route. The service operates every 15 to 30 minutes until midnight, and then every hour until 4AM. Telephone 0845 745 4950, or visit southernrailway.com for details.

Thameslink: Thameslink operate a normal overland train between Gatwick and Central London, stopping at King’s Cross, Farringdon City, Blackfriars and London Bridge. National Express: National Express operates a coach service between London and Brighton which stops at Gatwick on route. The journey from Victoria coach station to the airport can last anything between an hour to an hour-and-a-half, and operates from 7AM to 11.30PM. Taxi-cab: A taxi into central London takes 60-70 minutes, and will cost in the region of £90–£120.

Car: If you’re planning on driving to Gatwick down the M23, then you should get off at junction 9.

Getting around the airport

Gatwick Transit: The Gatwick Transit is a free monorail service which links the North and South terminals. Trains run every 3–4 minutes, and take just under 2 minutes to reach their destination.

People flying with BA and American Airlines can take advantage of the check-in facilities at Victoria train station.
