London Gatwick airport (LGW) lies 30 miles (48 km) south of central London. It is smaller than Heathrow with just two terminals.

Terminal transfers

Gatwick Transit: The Gatwick Transit is a free monorail service which links the North and South terminals. Trains run every 3–4 minutes, and take just under 2 minutes to reach their destination.

How to get there

Gatwick Express: The Gatwick Express is a high-speed train that takes you into Victoria station. The journey takes around 30–35 minutes, and runs every 15 minutes between 5.50AM–12.35AM (30 minutes at night). Trains from Victoria start at 5AM and finish at 11.45PM. Southern Trains: Southern operates between Gatwick and central London. The service operates every 15-30 mins until midnight, and then every hour until 4 AM. Telephone 0845 745 4950, or visit

Thameslink: Thameslink operate between Gatwick and central London, stopping at King’s Cross, Farringdon, Blackfriars and London Bridge. The journey takes around 40–60 minutes, depending on where you get off. Tele 0845 748 4950 or visit

National Express: National Express runs a coach from Victoria coach station to Brighton, stopping at Gatwick on route. The journey takes between an hour to an hour-and-a-half, and operates from 7 AM to 11.30 PM. From the airport they run from 5.15 AM to 10.15 PM. Telephone 0870 580 8080, or visit for details.

Taxi-cab: A taxi to central London takes 60-70 mins and costs from £90 to £120.

Car: If you’re planning on driving down the M23 then you should get off at junction 9.
