Have you ever visited Harrods? What did you think of it? Let other people know by posting your photos and writing a little review.
My only experience of Harrods is when I was young and took my then girlfriend to London. Neither of us had been to Harrods before so we went along but got stopped at the door because we had ripped jeans on, which were then fashionable. I wouldn't have minded, but they were actually ripped when I bought them -- they were supposed to look like that!
i thought parts of harrods were very gaudy and exhibited incredibly bad taste. there are parts of the store which are literally covered in gold and huge egyptian sphinxes which just look completely fake. i also managed to see the tribute to diana, which i thought was very tacky. certainly not worthy of the lady herself.
but i loved the goods. it was just a shame that i couldn't afford any of them. i had to buy a box of chocolates so i could come away with a harrods bag to show everyone at work.
like lots of places in London, this is one of the places which you are always told to see, but nobody knows why. i can understand the attraction in seeing the Tower of London, or Buckingham Palace, but Harrods is just a shop. Sure, it is nice and expensive and has some nice golden fixtures in it, but it's still just a shop. i think all the advice to go and see it is probably just put about by Harrods PR department, to get all the tourists in and spending money.
its like a tacky theme park, with lost of garish decorations that wouldnt look out of place in disneyland. All of the Egyptian things dont even look old! They are just plasticy moulds that have been nailed to the wall and you have to wear sunglasses because there is so much gold everywhere.
It just goes to show that being rich doesn't buy you taste!
