It's 1956, Leningrad, and Valentina has been invited to give her opinion on the authenticity of a Mattise at the Hermitage. But then her daughter arrives to seek her mother's help on a financial and political matter.
The mother and daughter are soon fighting for the own ideals and domestic responsibilities, as they come up against the choices they've both made in life and art.
