Written by: William Shakespeare; Cast: (the cast may change on different dates) Colin Campbell, Sarah Case, Mark Desebrock, Andrew Edwards, Andrius Gaucas, Beau Holland, Glynn MacDonald, Natasha Magigi, Isabel Marr, Mogali Masuku, Evelyn Miller, Brendan O'Hea, Eric Sirakian
Twelfth Night opens with Sebastian and Viola's shipwrecked boat on the coast of Illyria.
Viola believes her brother to be dead and disguises herself as him to get a job with Duke Orsino. But when he sends him/her off to woo his beloved Olivia on his behalf, Olivia instead falls for the charms of Viola/Sebastian. Viola, meanwhile, has decided that she likes Orsino. A chaos of mistaken identities then ensues (you are probably confused already, just reading this!), with Sebastian turning up in the nick of time to set right all the wrongs.
It's all very confusing, but also very funny -- this is one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies.
Note: the Globe's theatre season runs from April to October. Craig has been to watch a play at the Globe himself and thoroughly recommends it because it's not like any other theatre you've ever seen -- it's all open-air, for a start, and it has a standing area in the middle (called 'The Yard'). The actors sometimes parade through this yard during the scenes, and end up involving the crowd as if they were part of the cast. Read Craig's review of watching a play at the Globe before you go, so you can get a feeling for what it's like inside.
