Watching a West End show is #15 in our London Bucket List

Director: Michael Longhurst; Written by: Tony Kushner; Cast: (the cast may change on different dates) Sharon D Clarke, Naana Agyei-Ampadu; Music and lyrics: Jeanine Tesori

The Olivier Award-winning musical Caroline, Or Change was written by Tony Kushner, author of the celebrated play Angels in America, and has a soaring score by the Tony Award-winning Jeanine Tesori.

It's 1960s America and Caroline is a poorly paid maid toiling endlessly in the basement of the Gellman household, but in her mind the piles of dirty laundry and singing washing machines transform into a fantastical, magical place -- especially for the Gellman's little kid, Noah, who sneaks down the stairs to spy on her whenever he can. But a simple thank-you gesture of putting some money in Caroline's pocket backfires horribly, and shows how far the civil rights movement has really reached.
