This year's Christmas panto at the Hackney Empire will be Aladdin.

Ever since my mum and dad took me to Aladdin when I was a little kid I have been obsessed with genies (seriously). And whenever I see a lamp I rub it. When I see a jug, I rub it. When I see a mug, I rub it. When I see a bottle, I rub it. But nothing ever comes out of it -- not once! No cloud of dust or purple smoke or a big genie offering me three wishes -- nothing!

But I bet you 10p that when Aladdin head off on an amazing journey to the mystical East (aka Hackney), he'll rub his magic lamp and... bingo! Out will come a big purple genie first time, offering him three wishes -- which he will then proceed to completely waste because he hasn't thought through the consequences. They should have let me rub it! Ah well.

The Hackney Empire is promising us some glittering costumes, tap-dancing pandas, a beautiful princess, a big basket full of dirty washing, and a magic carpet ride into the fun and fairytale world of Oriental Peking. What more could you want!
