Proms concert #68 will see Valery Gergiev conducting pianist Denis Matsuev and the Mariinsky Orchestra and Chorus in a selection of classical works by Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.

Prokofiev — Cantata for the 20th Anniversary of the October Revolution
Tchaikovsky — Piano Concerto No. 3 in E flat major
Shostakovich — Symphony No. 5 in D minor

Valery Gergiev is general director of the world-famous Mariinsky Theatre, and principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. His chief focus is on the work of Russian composers, including pieces by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, and his favourite – Sergei Prokofiev.
