Le Jeune Homme Et La Mort

The London Coliseum will be putting on a double-bill of ballets: Le Jeune Homme et la Mort and La Sylphide.

Roland Petit's Le Jeune Homme et la Mort is a searing display of unrequited love performed to Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor. It tells the story of a young man who has fallen hopelessly in love with a cruel and faithless mistress, who does nothing but torment him. He falls increasingly distraught and confused, until he eventually succumbs to despair.

La Sylphide tells the story of James, who awakens on his wedding day to see the mysterious and tantalising Sylphide before him. His obsession with her then sets off a sequence of events where joy turns to sorrow, love to betrayal, and infatuation to tragedy.
