Director: Matthew Dunster; Written by: William Shakespeare
The Globe Theatre is putting on a production of Much Ado About Nothing -- Shakespeare's classic tale about second chances, and our never-ending search for the perfect love.
It all centres around two couples called Claudio and Hero, and Benedick and Beatrice. Claudio and Hero are the perfect pair and are due to be married soon, but Benedick and Beatrice can't bring themselves to be honest about their feelings.
That's when the scheming Prince steps in (who has been transformed into a scheming revolutionary for this production), who try tries to force Benedick to admit his love for Beatrice by vowing to kill his best friend. (Surely there are easier ways? -- but not in Shakespeare's world!)
Can his dastardly plot finally bring them together?
Note: the Globe's theatre season runs from April to October. Craig has been to watch a play at the Globe himself and thoroughly recommends it because it's not like any other theatre you've ever seen -- it's all open-air, for a start, and it has a standing area in the middle (called 'The Yard'). The actors sometimes parade through this yard during the scenes, and end up involving the crowd as if they were part of the cast. Read Craig's review of watching a play at the Globe before you go, so you can get a feeling for what it's like inside (it's good!).
