Good for kids? Value for money? Worth a visit?

London has plenty of outdoor ice rinks to choose from at Christmas time, but we think Somerset House probably has the most spectacular. If you've only got time to visit one rink this Christmas then definitely make it this one.

It is housed inside the 18th-century courtyard (where all the fountains are), and has prettiest Christmas tree in London at one end, and a Christmas shopping arcade along the outer edge where you can shop for yuletide treats courtesy of Fortnum & Mason.

They also have a beautifully lit cafe overlooking the rink (for all those people to scared to skate!) which serves cocktails, mulled wine and mugs of piping hot chocolate.

A Skate School is on hand to help you find your feet, and the Polar Bear Club does the same thing for little kids, helping them to take their first tentative steps on the ice.

> Talk about this event

> Craig’s review of this event – “The best ice rink at Christmas is the one at Somerset House. This is how a winter rink should look, all lit in brilliant blues with a giant Tiffany Christmas tree up the front. It gets dark early in the winter when we put the clocks back so it's pitch black at five-thirty, and people have packed it out already. They are half gliding and half sliding, and they all look… continued”
