"Don Carlos" is Verdi's opera on love, ambition and intrigue in 16th-century Spain.

Elizabeth of Valois is destined to marry Don Carlos as part of a peace treaty. But as soon as they fall in love news comes that the terms of the peace treaty have changed, and Elizabeth is to marry Carlos's father instead.

As Carlos's step-mother, Elizabeth still loves him, but King Philip decides to have him executed for the sake of the nation's stability. Will Carlos be able to flee, or will the the Grand Inquisitor's forces descend upon him?
