See the London Olympic medals, at the British Museum

to British Museum The British Museum will be hosting a small exhibition showcasing all the medals that can be won at the London Olympics. Also on show will be medals from the 1908 and 1948 London Olympics. The display will tell the complete story of the medals from start to finish, from the mining of the metal to the creation of the designs, to the final casting at the Royal Mint.
 
 

That’s all the sports events, but there are lots more outdoor events in London on 3 March including:

ABBA’s hit musical — “Mamma Mia!”3 March“Mamma Mia!” tells the tale of mum Donna recalling her wild-child youth on the eve of her daughter’s wedding. But when her daughter starts prodding for the identity of her dad, three men land on the Greek island paradise and rekindle memories that they first shared 20 years ago.

The Wanted, at the O2 Arena3 MarchThe Wanted have only been around since August 2010, but they’ve already notched up a top five album and several number one singles. You can see them when the play The O2 in March.

Gesamtkunstwerk: New art from Germany3 MarchThe Saatchi Gallery is hosting an exhibition of new art from Germany called “Gesamtkunstwerk”. It will include pieces by Dirk Bell, Matti Braun, Andre Butzer, Max Frisinger, Thomas Helbig, Volker Hueller, Thomas Kiesewetter, Josephine Meckseper, Kirstine Roepstorff, Julian Rosefeldt, Markus Selg and Thomas Zipp.

Hajj — Journey to the heart of Islam3 MarchHajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and every muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least one time in their lives. This major new exhibition will chart the history of this journey, exploring how pilgrims have tackled it through the centuries.

Tyne Daly in “Master Class” — about Maria Callas3 March“Master Class” tells the story of iconic opera singer Maria Callas. Tyne Daley (of “Cagney and Lacey” fame) takes the role of the legendary diva, whose turbulent love life and fiery temperament led to much self-sacrifice and heartache.

Antarctic photography, from Scott’s expedition3 March“The Heart of the Great Alone” is a remarkable exhibition of photographs from Scott’s Antartic expedition in 1910 and Shackleton’s visit in 1914. The dramatic images include some extraordinary icescapes and shots of the ships towering above the ice.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 20113 MarchThe Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition reveals the best images from the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competition. It includes all of the winners, the runners-up and more than 100 prize-winning photographs.

“Dickens and London” exhibition, at the Museum of London3 MarchThe Museum of London will be marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth by putting on a major new exhibition, taking you on a journey through Victorian London to discover the city that inspired his writings. Paintings, photographs and the original manuscripts of ‘Bleak House’ and ‘David Copperfield’ will bring to life the author’s world.
