Leadenhall Market review (Sep 2011)
This is an old review Read my most recent review here
Leadenhall Market looks like it's come straight out of the pages of a Charles Dickens novel. It's not really a market though... there's a couple of food stalls in the middle but the rest is just pubs and cafes and a few cheese and chocolate shops. It's the type of place that sells super strong coffee in thimble-sized cups. People come out with ham and cheese rolls for fifty quid, and then sit down and eat it in their thousand-pound suits.
I felt a bit out of place though because I basically look like a tramp, and it was jam-packed with businessmen and women in their pin-striped suits. The City is straight out the door, so when the lunchtime bell goes they roll out the banks and their billion dollar business meetings to eat their pastrami wraps and cappachino chocolate powder coffee cups. I swear on my life that everyone had an umbrella and a briefcase, and shiny shoes and shoulder pads. And all I had was a tatty bag and camera. I'm surprised they didn't turf me out the door.
I might go back at Christmas because it probably looks amazing when the fairy lights are strung up.
