Heathrow airport (LHR) is the world’s busiest airport, lying 15 miles (24 km) west of central London.

Getting to London Heathrow

Heathrow Express: The Heathrow Express is a high-speed train that takes you into Paddington station. The train operates every 15 minutes between 5.10AM–11.30PM, and the journey lasts around 15 to 20 minutes. Telephone 0845 600 1515, or visit heathrowexpress.com for details.

Heathrow Connect: Heathrow Connect is a normal overland train between Heathrow and Central London, stopping at several places on route. The service operates every 30 minutes between 5.30AM–midnight (6.15AM–midnight on Sundays), and the journey lasts around 25 minutes. London Underground: Heathrow is served by the Piccadilly Line, and the journey into London takes about an hour. Trains depart every five to ten minutes between 5AM–11.45PM, or 5.50AM–10.50PM on Sundays. Telephone 0207 222 1234, or visit tube.tfl.gov.uk for details.

National Express: National Express also runs a bus service from Victoria coach station. The service operates every 30–60 minutes fifty times a day, and the journey can last anything between 45 minutes to an hour. The first bus from Heathrow Central station is at 5.35AM, and the first one in the opposite direction is at 7.15AM. The last one out of Heathrow is at 9.45PM, and the last one from Victoria is at 11.30PM. Telephone 0870 580 8080, or visit nationalexpress.com for details.

A2 Airbus: The Airbus runs every 30 minutes to Victoria and King’s Cross, making various stops along the way. The journey takes around 1 to 2 hours, depending where you get off.

Taxi-cab: A taxi into central London takes about an hour, and will cost anything between £40–£60.

Car: If you’re planning on driving to Heathrow down the M4, then you should get off at junction 4 for terminals 1, 2 and 3, and junction 3 for terminal 4.

Getting around the airport

Hotel Hoppa Bus: Heathrow has 15 international hotels around its border, most of which are served by the Hotel Hoppa Bus. (The bus does not serve Terminal 4.) It operates every 15 minutes between 5.30AM–9PM, and then every 30 minutes until 11.30PM. Telephone 0208 400 6659 for more details.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 focuses on domestic flights around the UK, departures to Europe, and El Al and South African Airways flights.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 has European flights with non-UK carriers, and a few long-haul destinations.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 houses long-haul flights to the USA, South America, Asia and the Pacific. It has also lots of flights to Africa.

Terminal 4

Terminal 4 currently houses British Airways flights to Amsterdam, Athens, Paris, Moscow and Tel Aviv, along with BA flights to long-haul destinations. It also serves a few KLM and Qantas flights.

Check-in desks at Paddington

People flying with BA, American Airlines or United Airlines can take advantage of the check-in facilities at Paddington train station.

Lost property
