Boston Manor Station to Watford Junction

Share: |More

Hello all,

I will be coming to London on the 9th of July and I'm super excited about it as the highlights of my vacation will be the Warner Bros. Studio Tour - The Making Of Harry Potter

Now, we'll be staying at Boston Manor Hotel. I need to go from Boston Manor station to Watford Junction. I have tried using the calculator on this website however Watford Junction is not listed in the stations drop down menu. Maybe that's because it's an overground station?

Can you tell me which is the best option to go for?

I have the tube map and I've came up with these options (it's my first time in London so I hope I got this right):

Option 1 - Take the Piccadilly Line from Boston Manor station to Leicester Square. Change lines to Northern Line till Euston. Change lines to Overground and keep going till Watford Junction.

Option 2: Take the Piccadilly Line from Boston Manor to Piccadilly Circus. Change lines to Bakerloo Line till Wembley Central. Change lines to Overground till Watford Junction.

Option 3: Take the Piccadilly Line from Boston Manor to Hammersmith. Change lines to Hammersmith & City Line to Paddington. Change lines to Bakerloo Line to Wembley Central. Change line to Overground and go to Watford Junction.

I believe that all 3 options involve Fare Zones 1 - 8. But I guess Option 3 will involve much less time since it's a shorter route (is it?! LOL) ... But I don't even know whether what I've written is actually possible. I only followed the map and I have no experience using London Underground so I might be doing a total mess.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone can tell me whether I'm in the right track, how much fares cost, how long will this trip take, etc... oh and which option should I go for?!

Thanks a lot! :D

theres loads of ways to do it but i think they will involve 3 trains, so you'll have to change at least twice. watford junction isnt on the london underground so i think thats why its not on the list.

youve got to get to euston to catch a train to watford. i would probably go on the piccadilly line to green park, and then get the victoria line to euston, but your ones are alright, as long as you end up at euston. probably take about an hour and a half to watford, i reckon . something like that. (i live in watford). but dont do the third one though, because that is going to add a fourth train to the journey. that wont be quicker

cant you just get Harry Potter to magic you there? :grinning:

I wish Jerry! I might get BACK to boston manor station flying a Nimbus 2000 :p haha!

Thanks for your suggestion. I took a note of it!

I've just checked the prices and I am quite shocked to see that for a 7 day ticket for zones 1 - 9 + watford junction, it's 76 pounds! :o So that would be 152 for 2 persons! Do you think there's a tourist special offer?! lol

If we get that travel card, that would be an oyster card, right? It's so complicated. LOL Will we be able to use buses with that card at that price as well?

If anyone has any idea, please share your knowledge with a totally-confused Maltese lady! lol

Oh and guest!! You cannot let your kids miss this. Everyone has been saying that this is just an amazing experience. You have to search for it. Just google it - studio tour. I don't want to risk seeming like I'm advertising on here for God's sakes lol I need help. hehe

you dont need zones 1-9 for 7 days, unless you are planning on going every single day. you only need it for 1 day, and then probably just zones 1to 4 for the other 6 days because boston manor is in zone 4. a travelcard for zones 1 to 4 is only about 10 quid a day (i think). i dont know what the fare is to watford. but even if its 15 quid that still means you only need to pay 75 quid max for each person.

buy an oyster card each. and put 75 quid on it (each). then you can just use it on the trains and buses everyday

have a look at the "london pass" as well. that includes a 6-day travelcard for about the same money, but you also get lots of money off attractions, so if you are going to be doing 6 days worth of sightseeing that might save you a shedload of money

Thanks for the info, Guest.

So I guess we'll be buying 1 day travel card for zone 1 - 9 + watford junction, since we're only going there once. And we're not planning on going on zones 5 - 9 again. And we'll buy an Oyster Card. I didn't know that we could put money into it. I thought that there were Oyster Cards for 30 pounds or for 50 pounds for example. LOL. So now I know that we can put money into it and use it wherever and we'll get charged accordingly.

I was wondering... How can one tops up his oyster and how would you know how much you have been charged per trip/day?

Oh and to buy this Oyster card, do you have to pay or you just put money into it and that's all the money you will pay?

I was looking at their website with the prices and I also saw that they have a 7-day travel card option for 41.80 pounds for zone 1- 4. Does this mean that I can use this for every journey I make with underground or bus within zone 1 and 4? Even if I catch the underground/bus, say, 5 times a day? If it is so, it would be better than that Pay As You Go option I guess since the max I can get charged for peak time is 10.20 pounds a day which will amount to 63.60 pounds for 6 days... Now I know this is the MAX amount... But I don't know how much LESS people are usually charged...

Any help please?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions so far!!!

you can put any money you want onto an Oyster Card, and the computer will work out what the maximum is you should pay for each day. Once you have spent the equivalent of a one day travel card then it will stop charging you for any subsequent uses.

at the end of the holiday you can even get back any money that is still left on the oyster card that you havent used, so you dont waste any money

im pretty sure that the computer only works out the prices on a day-by-day basis though. it cant work out that a 4-day pass is cheaper than four 1-day passes. so if you want a 4-day pass you will have to buy it as that when you start. you can then use it as many times as you like during those 4 days and it wont charge you any extra money (as long as you dont go into another zone you didnt pay for)

Prices are on tfl site

I see no oyster card options for 6 days or so... only for 7 day...

Have you had a look on the Harry Potter website?
wbstudiotour.co.uk/en/your-visit/gettin ... tting-here

It looks like they offer a tour ticket with a coach to/from Victoria included. That will probably work out the cheapest and save you the bother of having to catch three trains. It will probably work out quicker too, and drop you at the door.
You can get to Victoria from Boston Manor easy-peasy -- just get the piccadilly line to south kensington and then 2 stops on the district line

Then you can just get yourself a zone 1-4 travelcard for 7 days (you will still need a 7-day one, because you'll have to get to Victoria on the tube)

...actually, scrap that idea. ive just checked the price of a tour ticket without the coach and it looks like the coach costs 30 pounds. seems a bit steep! they could lay on a limousine for that price
