Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square was built to commemmorate Lord Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. It is home to Nelson’s Column, the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

First designed by Charles Barry in 1856, Big Ben has become London’s most iconic landmark, towering over Parliament and Westminster Bridge.

Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official London residence, and is used to entertain guests and foreign heads of state, and as a backdrop for ceremonial occasions.

St. Paul’s Cathedral is Christopher Wren’s masterpiece. It boasts one of the largest domes in the world, and contains the tombs of many of Britain’s greatest heroes – men like Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington.

The Tower of London was built by William the Conqueror after the Norman Conquest. The imposing fortress survived the next 900 years as a palace, prison and royal mint, and has played host to some of England’s most famous events. It is now a World Heritage Site, and home to the Crown Jewels.

Harrods is arguably the most famous department store in the world. With more than 300 departments it is the largest shop in London, occupying five acres of upmarket Knightsbridge. Don’t miss the ostentatious Food Hall and its mouth-wateringly brilliant restaurants.

Tower Bridge is one of London’s most iconic landmarks. The walkway between the two towers has fantastic views up and down the river, and the museum is filled with interesting photos and films of its construction, and the original Victorian steam engines.

if you time it right then you can see Changing the Guard at buckingham Palace as well (which is about 11 in the morning, i think). if you are here for 2 weeks then order some tickets for the Buckingham Palace tour (quickly!), because then you can actually go inside the palace as well. I dont think it opens until the end of June though.

dont bother going inside Tower Bridge because its rubbish. and You havent got Westminster Abbey or the London Eye on it? They are both worth doing.

The London Eye is a definite must. Maybe you could see some Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre as well? That is an out-of-the-ordinary theatre going experience. If you want to hear some music then how about some classical music at the Royal Albert Hall... or something a bit louder at the O2
