Opera Holland Park will be putting on a production of Pietro Mascagni's Isabeau, which is based on the medieval legend of Lady Godiva.
King Raimondo is determined to find a husband for his beautiful daughter, Princess Isabeau, so he invites knights from all around the country to demonstrate their affection at a special 'Tournament of Love'.
When Isabeau refuses to choose a suitor the King orders her to ride naked on horseback through the town as punishment. The townspeople wisely refuse to look -- everyone except the King's falconer, Folco -- who is promptly arrested and thrown into prison. Isabeau duly falls in love with him, knowing all along that their relationship is doomed.
Note: The Holland Park Theatre is basically just a big white canopy in the middle of Holland Park, using Holland House as its backdrop. Some of the sides are open to the air (with the canopy acting as a roof), so you might want to wrap up warm. There are some picnic areas and refreshment areas dotted around the site which you can use during the interval and before it starts.
