You can't beat a Christmas panto over the holidays, and this year the Lyric Hammersmith is going for the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
If you don't know what a pantomime is, then it's basically a family-friendly theatre show with lots of songs, lots of corny jokes and ham acting. They'll be lots of silliness, plenty of crazy costumes, and some baddies to boo at. And they always have a lady playing the part of man (don't ask me why -- they just do!). It's the kind of show that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
We all know how this story goes... Jack stupidly agrees to swap his cow for a handful of magic beans, much to his mum's annoyance! But luckily for him they turn out to the real deal, and start growing a stalk high up into the clouds.
So what does he decide to do? He decides to climb up it, of course (with no climbing gear). Higher and higher into the sky he goes (which is just plain dangerous), until he comes across... I don't want to spoil the surprise. So all I will say is this: Fi-Fi-Fo-Fum!
