If you've already been to the House of Commons and seen the MPs debating, then why not try the London Assembly at City Hall?
Once a month the 25 London Assembly members gather together to grill the Mayor of London about his policies. Boris has long gone now, of course, and we've got a new Mayor now -- Labour's Sadiq Khan.
Even if you can't make the date to see the Mayor then City Hall is still worth a visit. The public can go inside and climb the spiral ramp to the second floor, where you'll find the assembly chamber. The spiral ramp has some great views of the Thames, including a very fine one of the Tower of London across the water. The lower-ground floor usually contains a London-themed exhibition of photos, drawings or stories. There is a cafe downstairs for a bite to eat, where you can rub shoulders with the City Hall staff and listen in to what they get up to.
Check out Craig's review before you go (when he watched Sadiq Khan), and his separate review of City Hall.
If you enjoy political debates, then you will probably enjoy a trip to the House of Commons and Prime Minister's Questions as well.
Got a question? – Talk about Sadiq Khan
Craig’s review – “Mayor's Question Time has fallen a bit flat since Boris Johnson left. I used to like watching him because he was funny -- he used to slip in a few jokes and anecdotes and liven it up a bit. But the mayor we've got now is much more of a shiny shoes and smart suit kinda-guy. He fires off a stats attack and bamboozles you with data.
Mayor's Question Time is held once a… continued”
