The Geffrye Museum's annual "Christmas Past" exhibition is always very popular.

They decorate each of their period rooms how they would have looked in yesteryear, using traditional Christmas decorations, lights and greenery, and put on a bit of period music to get you in the seasonal spirit.

The idea behind it is that you can see how Christmas has been celebrated during the last 400 years, and discover the origins and meanings behind some of our most cherished traditions -- everything from decorating a tree and kissing under the mistletoe, to hanging up the stockings on the mantelpiece and sending Christmas cards.
