'Scenes from the Lives of the Virgin and other Saints' by Giovanni da Rimini was purchased by the National Gallery in 2015.

It has long been thought of as part of a diptych. The other panel is called 'Scenes from the Life of Christ', and is usually on display at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica in Rome, but the National has arranged for the two works to be reunited.

They will be displayed alongside some works by other artists who worked at the same time as Rimini in the early 14th-century, including some exceptional ivory plaques and Italian Trecento paintings.
