"Norma" tells the story of a priestess who is in love with the leader of an occupying army. But despite bearing two his children, Pollione has switched his attentions to Norma's fellow priestess, Adalgisa.

Norma's people are looking to her to lead a rebellion, and when she discovers Pollione's betrayal she gives the signal for war.

Bellini's opera contains arguably the most famous aria of all-time — "Casta Diva".
