The development of flight and terrifying aerial warfare has inspired a wide variety of imaginative responses to conflict.

The Imperial War Museum's "Visions of War: Above and Below" exhibition will show some of the ways in which artists have portrayed the planes, from surreal depictions of them as creatures, to street views of the bombing raids.

The artworks span the First World War right up to the present day.

Highlights include Paul Nash's 'Battle of Germany' (1944) and Alison Wilding's 'Drones Drawings' (2012).
