The world famous Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, or 'Proms', are now into their 118th season. The two-month long classical extravanga starts at the Royal Albert Hall when BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus join forces with four different conductors -- Edward Gardner, Sir Roger Norrington, Sir Mark Elder and Martyn Brabbins -- to perform Mark-Anthony Turnage's "Canon Feve", Delius' "Sea Drif", Tippett's "Suite for the Birthday of Prince Charles", and Elgar's "Cockaigne Overture" and "Coronation Ode".

Sir Mark Elder is the music director of Manchester’s famous Hallé Orchestra. The British conductor has also held important roles with the English National Opera (ENO), BBC Symphony Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

As well as working closely with the BBC, the BBC Symphony Orchestra plays regular concerts at the Barbican and is the principal orchestra of world-famous Proms Concerts, giving around a dozen performances each year, including the prestigious First and Last Nights.

The terracota-coloured Royal Albert Hall is one of London’s favourite concert venues. Whilst it remains most famous for classical music and the annual Prom concerts, it also holds rock and pop concerts, sports events and award ceremonies.
