Verdi's "Otello" is one of his best-loved operas, as much for Shakespeare's tragic plot as the sublime score.

It tells the tale of Otello, whose paranoia makes him think ill of Desdemona, whilst the dastardly Iago schemes to increase his misgivings. Verdi's score brilliantly heightens the drama through the use of some beautifully crafted and striking choruses, whilst some arresting ensembles colour scenes of haunting intimacy.

The Royal Opera House is one of the world’s great opera houses. The Grade I listed building seats 2,256 people and has four tiers of boxes and balconies. It is home to two of Britain’s foremost classical companies – the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera.

ToscaTosca at Royal Opera House – 9th, 12th, 15th, 18th and 20th July 2013
The Royal Opera House is putting on a production of Puccini’s “Tosca”, a fast-moving sexual thriller set in Rome at the same time as Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. When Mario Cavaradossi agrees to aid an escaping fugitive, he sets off a disasterous chain of events that links him, his lover Floria Tosca, and the evil Chief of Police, Scarpia.

La BohemePuccini’s “La Boheme” — London Coliseum – 7th, 12th, 15th, 19th, 22nd and 29th June 2013
“La Boheme” follows the story of two couples: the poet Rodolfo, who falls in love with pretty seamstress Mimi, and the painter Marcello, who enjoys the company of an on-off mistress Musetta. The opera’s exploration of the joy, anguish and heartbreak of young love, and its succession of passionate arias and duets, makes this the ultimate romantic opera.
