It's been ten long years since the star of "Jonathan Creek" and "QI" last tried stand-up, but after a hugely successful tour of Australia, Alan Davies is back on stage with a brand-new show: the cheerily titled "Life Is Pain".
The historic Hackney Empire was built at the turn of the 20th-century. The Grade II listed building has seen everyone from Charlie Chaplin and WC Fields, to Stan Laurel and Marie Lloyd, and a recent refit has seen it return to its former glory.
