The inaugral University Boat Race was held in 1829, making it one of the oldest sporting competitions in the world -- and a favourite date in London's calendar.

This year will be the 158th time that Oxford have faced Cambridge. Cambridge currently have the lead over their rivals with 80 wins against 76, along with one draw in 1877.

The race takes place on the River Thames between Putney and Mortlake. Starting at Putney Bridge, the route heads west underneath the Hammersmith and Barnes Bridges, and ends just before Chiswick Bridge about 16 minutes later. (The current record is 16 mins and 19 seconds, set by Cambridge in 1998.)

The best place to watch is from one of the many riverside pubs.
