Handball is played by two teams of seven players who have to pass and dribble a small ball using only their hands. The aim of the game is to throw the ball into the opponent's goal as many times as they can in 60 minutes.

At London 2012, the preliminary rounds and the women's quarter finals will be held at the Copper Box. After that the competition transfers to the Basketball Arena.
