“La Boheme” is one of Puccini’s most powerful operas. It follows the story of two different couples: the penniless poet Rodolfo, who falls in love with the seamstress Mimi, and the painter Marcello, who enjoys the company of an on-off mistress Musetta. The opera’s exploration of the joy, anguish and heartbreak of young love blighted by sudden tragedy, and its succession of passionate arias and duets, makes this the ultimate romantic opera.
Schoenberg’s “Moses und Aron” – 25th to 26th July 2014
The Welsh National Opera will give a performance of Schoenberg’s great unfinished masterpiece, “Moses und Aron”, at the Royal Opera House. When God charges Moses with being his prophet he pleads a lack of eloquence, and asks his brother to speak on his behalf. But Aron’s words soon corrupt his thoughts, much to the prophet’s anguish and despair.
