The Royal Ballet will be putting on a performance of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet “The Sleeping Beauty”. Tchaikovsky’s score is one of the finest in all classical music. It tells the story of Princess Aurora, cursed on her christening day by the wicked fairy Carabosse. She is doomed to prick her finger on a spindle and die. But a kind fairy tempers the curse so that the Princess will instead fall asleep for 100 years — and be woken by a handsome prince.
And here are some other events at London Coliseum…
Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” – 11th December 2013 to 5th January 2014 (except 15th, 22nd, 25th Dec and 1st Jan)
No Christmas would be complete without a visit to see Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet “The Nutcracker”. As midnight chimes a magical Christmas tree starts to grow through the ceiling, marking the start of Clara’s journey to the Sugar Plum Fairy’s retreat in the Kingdom of Sweets.
English National Ballet — Le Corsaire – 9th to 19th January 2014 (except 13th)
“Le Corsaire” tells the tale of a pirate’s love for a beautiful harem girl. In the best tradition of pirate stories, it is a swashbuckling drama full of rich sultans, captured maidens, daring rescues, all culminating in a shipwreck which amounts to one of the most breathtaking spectacles in ballet.
