Hollywood actor Jonathan Pryce will be starring in one of the greatest works in western literature -- William Shakespeare's "King Lear".

Lear is an ageing monarch in a divided kingdom. When he asks his three beloved daughters to profess their love for him, two of them humour the elderly king with flattering platitudes. But when his third daughter Cordelia confesses to love him just like a daughter should, he casts her out of his kingdom for wounding his pride.

His world soon descends into chaos, and all that he once believed is brought into question. His first two daughters force him from power, and an increasingly impotent and frail Lear descends into madness.

A Midsummer Nights DreamA Midsummer Nights Dream at Globe Theatre – 24th May to 12th October 2013
The plot for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” revolves around two sets of couples whose complicated love affairs are complicated still further by the arrival of the King and Queen of the Fairies. Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius — but Demetrius is supposed to be marrying Hermia… When the lovers take refuge in the woods they wander into the midst of a kingly dispute. 

 

Taming Of The ShrewTaming Of The Shrew at Globe Theatre – 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th and 19th to 21st June 2013
The Globe Theatre is putting on a production of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”. The play follows two wealthy sisters as they search for a husband. Bianca is modest and kind, and has no trouble attracting a string of suitors, but Katherina is wild and shrewish and the only man who wants to know is the gold-digging Petruchio. Will he be able to bully her to the altar?
