This exhibition will look at the relationship between performance and painting since 1950. Key works by the likes of Jackson Pollock and David Hockney will be used to show two different ways of approaching the canvas: one gestural, and the other theatrical.
The exhibition will suggest a new way of looking at work by younger artists, whose approach to painting has been energised by these historical sources.
