Museum exhibition in London at British Museum

Free

to British Museum The British Museum will be hosting a small exhibition showcasing all the medals that can be won at the London Olympics. Also on show will be medals from the 1908 and 1948 London Olympics. The display will tell the complete story of the medals from start to finish, from the mining of the metal to the creation of the designs, to the final casting at the Royal Mint.

That’s all the sports events, but there are lots more outdoor events in London on 4 April including:

ABBA’s hit musical — “Mamma Mia!”4 April“Mamma Mia!” tells the tale of mum Donna recalling her wild-child youth on the eve of her daughter’s wedding. But when her daughter starts prodding for the identity of her dad, three men land on the Greek island paradise and rekindle memories that they first shared 20 years ago.

Noel Coward’s “Hay Fever”4 April“Hay Fever” is set in the country house of Judith Bliss – a recently retired star of the London stage. When members of the Bliss family start inviting a guest to stay the weekend, none of them tell the others that they’re inviting someone over… The comedy of bad manners star stars Lindsay Duncan.

“Blood Brothers”, at the Phoenix Theatre4 April“Blood Brothers” has been packing them into the West End for two decades now. It tells the story of a single mum who is forced to give away one of her new-born twin sons after she can’t afford to keep him. Despite growing up on opposite side of the tracks their lives become hopelessly enmeshed, and ultimately end in tragedy.

Dave Gorman’s Powerpoint Presentation4 AprilAfter the tremendous success of his “Googlewhack” and “Are You Dave Gorman?” shows, Dave Gorman is back with his most exciting one yet… “Powerpoint Presentation”. For this brand new show he will be teaming up with a projector screen to present a powerpoint presentation. Be warned that some bullet points will be used.

Gesamtkunstwerk: New art from Germany4 AprilThe Saatchi Gallery is hosting an exhibition of new art from Germany called “Gesamtkunstwerk”. It will include pieces by Dirk Bell, Matti Braun, Andre Butzer, Max Frisinger, Thomas Helbig, Volker Hueller, Thomas Kiesewetter, Josephine Meckseper, Kirstine Roepstorff, Julian Rosefeldt, Markus Selg and Thomas Zipp.

War photographs by Don McCullin4 AprilDon McCullin is recognised as one of Britain’s greatest war photographers. “Shaped By War” is a major new exhibition which explores both his life and work, and includes over 200 of his finest photographs, many which have not been seen in public.

“The Duchess of Malfi”, at the Old Vic4 AprilThe Old Vic will be putting on a production of John Webster’s Jacobean tragedy “The Duchess of Malfi”, which tells the black and bloody story of the recently widowed Duchess, struggling to retain her dignity in the face of death.

“Dickens and London” exhibition, at the Museum of London4 AprilThe Museum of London will be marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth by putting on a major new exhibition, taking you on a journey through Victorian London to discover the city that inspired his writings. Paintings, photographs and the original manuscripts of ‘Bleak House’ and ‘David Copperfield’ will bring to life the author’s world.

All New People4 April“All New People” tells the story of Charlie, who has retreated to Long Beach Island for the winter. With his life in a rut, his little hideaway escape plan is ruined a motley parade of misfits who turn up and darken the mood. What will a fireman, a beauty queen, and a Brit estate agent do cooped up in a beach house?
