Turner Inspired: In the Light of Claude

J W Turner was a huge admirer of the Italian artist Claude's landscapes. Two of Turner's most famous paintings were even left to the gallery on the proviso that they were hung between two of his pictures. This exhibition will showcase some other closely related works and includes oils, watercolours and sketchbooks.

This special exhibition celebrates the National Gallery's acquisition of Titian's "Diana and Callisto". Its companion painting "Diana and Actaeon" was purchased in 2009, and the pair have now been reunited in Room 1. "Diana and Callisto" shows the moment when Diana banishes Callisto after revealing her pregnancy.
