to Hampstead Observatory Hampstead Observatory is a small observatory with a six-inch refractor, housed inside a rotating dome, and it has one major advantage over its more famous brother in Greenwich -- it allows the public to just turn up and see the stars for free. You don't even have to book.

Antarctic photography, from Scott’s expedition15 April“The Heart of the Great Alone” is a remarkable exhibition of photographs from Scott’s Antartic expedition in 1910 and Shackleton’s visit in 1914. The dramatic images include some extraordinary icescapes and shots of the ships towering above the ice.

“Migrations” exhibition — Tate Britain15 AprilCutting through 500 years of history, the exhibition will include works by Lely, Kneller, Mondrian, Bomberg and more. It was also explore the 16th and 17th-century Dutch and Flemish artists who came over in search of new patrons for their landscape and still-life work.

“Picasso and Britain” exhibition15 April“Picasso and Britain” will explore the artist’s lifelong connections with this country. The exhibition will consist of 150 works charting Picasso’s rise in Britain, tracing the ways in which his work was exhibited and collected here during his lifetime. It will also examine the artist’s impact on 20th-century modernism.

David Shrigley: Brain Activity15 AprilDavid Shrigley is best known for his witty and wry observations on everyday life. He uses a deliberately crude graphic style alongside an insightful commentary on the absurdities of human relationships. This exhibition will be his first major show in London.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Yeomen of the Guard”15 AprilJohn Wilson will be conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra in a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Yeomen of the Guard” at the Royal Festival Hall.

Damien Hirst exhibition — Tate Modern15 AprilDamien Hirst first came to attention in the 1980s and has gone on to become one of the most influential artists of his generation. This exciting exhibition will bring together key works from his first twenty years, including many of his iconic sculptures, medicine cabinets and spot and spin paintings.

“Misterman”, at the National Theatre15 AprilThomas Magill lives in Inishfree, a quaint little Irish town. As a fierce evangelist he wants to save this sinful place from itself. Dwain Flynn is a miserable drunk, and Mrs Cleary is a blasphemous flirt, but they aren’t listening. How far will Thomas go in his quest for salvation?

Titian’s “Diana and Callisto”15 AprilThis special exhibition celebrates the National Gallery’s acquisition of Titian’s “Diana and Callisto”. Its companion painting “Diana and Actaeon” was purchased in 2009, and the pair have now been reunited in Room 1. “Diana and Callisto” shows the moment when Diana banishes Callisto after revealing her pregnancy.

Yayoi Kusama exhibition15 AprilYayoi Kusama is probably best-known for her repeating dot patterns. Since 1977 this intriguing artist has spent much of her life living in a psychiatric institution, and her work has been touched by obsession and a desire to escape from psychological trauma.
