See the stars at Hampstead Observatory

to Hampstead Observatory Hampstead Observatory is a small observatory with a six-inch refractor, housed inside a rotating dome, and it has one major advantage over its more famous brother in Greenwich -- it allows the public to just turn up and see the stars for free. You don't even have to book.

That’s all the events for children, but there are plenty more 15 April events in London, including:

“Misterman”, at the National Theatre15 AprilThomas Magill lives in Inishfree, a quaint little Irish town. As a fierce evangelist he wants to save this sinful place from itself. Dwain Flynn is a miserable drunk, and Mrs Cleary is a blasphemous flirt, but they aren’t listening. How far will Thomas go in his quest for salvation?

David Shrigley: Brain Activity15 AprilDavid Shrigley is best known for his witty and wry observations on everyday life. He uses a deliberately crude graphic style alongside an insightful commentary on the absurdities of human relationships. This exhibition will be his first major show in London.

Marcus Brigstocke, at the Comedy Store15 AprilMarcus Brigstocke will be joining the Comedy Store Players for a night of comedy improvisation. Other comedians on the bill include Andy Smart, Steve Edis, Stephen Frost, Steve Steen and Josie Lawrence.

Hajj — Journey to the heart of Islam15 AprilHajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and every muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least one time in their lives. This major new exhibition will chart the history of this journey, exploring how pilgrims have tackled it through the centuries.

Antarctic photography, from Scott’s expedition15 April“The Heart of the Great Alone” is a remarkable exhibition of photographs from Scott’s Antartic expedition in 1910 and Shackleton’s visit in 1914. The dramatic images include some extraordinary icescapes and shots of the ships towering above the ice.

Hans-Peter Feldmann exhibition — Serpentine Gallery15 AprilHans-Peter Feldmann made his name in the 1970s with his expansive and encyclopaedic photographic series, which linked his life-long hobby of collecting with his practice as an archivist of visual culture. This will be Feldmann’s first solo show in a UK gallery since winning the 2010 Hugo Boss Prize.

Queen Elizabeth II, by Cecil Beaton15 AprilCecil Beaton photographed The Queen as she went from being a princess to a monarch and a mother. This exhibition will feature nearly 100 of his best portraits. Also included are extracts from Beaton’s own letters and diaries, which will reveal the intense planning and working practice of a royal sitting.

County Cricket — Middlesex v Surrey15 AprilIf you fancy catching a few innings at the home of cricket then get yourself down to Lord’s Cricket Ground for an LV County Championship game between Middlesex and Surrey.

“Moon on a Rainbow Shawl”, at the National Theatre15 AprilOld Mack’s noisy yard in Trinidad is a cacophony of calypso beats and hymn tunes, where neighbours drink, fight and pass judgment, all whilst trying to build a better life. But Ephraim is determined, and nothing is going to stop him escaping his dead-end job for a nw life in England — not even the beautiful Rosa.
