See the stars at Hampstead Observatory

to Hampstead Observatory Hampstead Observatory is a small observatory with a six-inch refractor, housed inside a rotating dome, and it has one major advantage over its more famous brother in Greenwich -- it allows the public to just turn up and see the stars for free. You don't even have to book.

That’s all the events for children, but there are plenty more 15 April events in London, including:

Queen Elizabeth II, by Cecil Beaton15 AprilCecil Beaton photographed The Queen as she went from being a princess to a monarch and a mother. This exhibition will feature nearly 100 of his best portraits. Also included are extracts from Beaton’s own letters and diaries, which will reveal the intense planning and working practice of a royal sitting.

War photographs by Don McCullin15 AprilDon McCullin is recognised as one of Britain’s greatest war photographers. “Shaped By War” is a major new exhibition which explores both his life and work, and includes over 200 of his finest photographs, many which have not been seen in public.

“Dickens and London” exhibition, at the Museum of London15 AprilThe Museum of London will be marking the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth by putting on a major new exhibition, taking you on a journey through Victorian London to discover the city that inspired his writings. “Moon on a Rainbow Shawl”, at the National Theatre15 AprilOld Mack’s noisy yard in Trinidad is a cacophony of calypso beats and hymn tunes, where neighbours drink, fight and pass judgment, all whilst trying to build a better life. But Ephraim is determined, and nothing is going to stop him escaping his dead-end job for a nw life in England — not even the beautiful Rosa.

Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Yeomen of the Guard”15 AprilJohn Wilson will be conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra in a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Yeomen of the Guard” at the Royal Festival Hall.
