See the London Olympic medals, at the British Museum

to British Museum The British Museum will be hosting a small exhibition showcasing all the medals that can be won at the London Olympics. Also on show will be medals from the 1908 and 1948 London Olympics. The display will tell the complete story of the medals from start to finish, from the mining of the metal to the creation of the designs, to the final casting at the Royal Mint.

That’s all the sports events, but there are lots more outdoor events in London on 3 March including:

The Madness of George III3 MarchAlan Bennett’s play “The Madness of George III” is best-known as an award-winning film starring Nigel Hawthorne and Helen Mirren. It charts the true story of George III’s mental health problems brought on by porphyria, which led to bouts of insanity.

ABBA’s hit musical — “Mamma Mia!”3 March“Mamma Mia!” tells the tale of mum Donna recalling her wild-child youth on the eve of her daughter’s wedding. But when her daughter starts prodding for the identity of her dad, three men land on the Greek island paradise and rekindle memories that they first shared 20 years ago.

Spend an evening looking at the stars…3 MarchIf you’re a budding astromomer and looking for a truly memorable experience, then how about booking a spot on a session at the Royal Observatory? The ticket will include a planetarium show exploring the stars on show that night, and the opportunity to look through the 18-tonne Victorian telescope.

“Legally Blonde”, at the Savoy Theatre3 MarchCollege cutie Elle Woods is riding high as the homecoming queen… but hits the ground with a bump when her boyfriend dumps her for someone serious. So Ellie does what all women do when they’re depressed — she hits the shops, and signs up for Harvard Law — proving that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

X Factor Live! — at Wembley Arena3 MarchThe 8th series of the X-Factor might have lacked the big guns of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, but the new line-up of judges more than made up for that. Now you can relive all the good bits when the stars come out on stage. And not just the good ones either — you’ll also be subjected to the ones who couldn’t sing!

Tyne Daly in “Master Class” — about Maria Callas3 March“Master Class” tells the story of iconic opera singer Maria Callas. Tyne Daley (of “Cagney and Lacey” fame) takes the role of the legendary diva, whose turbulent love life and fiery temperament led to much self-sacrifice and heartache.

“Midnight Tango”, at the Aldwych Theatre3 March“Midnight Tango” was created by Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace — the same people who have been dazzling us with their sensual tango routines on TV’s “Strictly Come Dancing”. The show is set in downtown Buenos Aires and will take you on a journey through this intoxicating city.

Changing the Guard, at Buckingham Palace3 MarchStrolling down The Mall to Buckingham Palace and watching the “Changing of the Guard” is one of the must-do events in everyone’s itinerary. The new set of guards arrive on the forecourt accompanied by a military band, which they take part in a ceremonial handing over of the keys.

Hajj — Journey to the heart of Islam3 MarchHajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, and every muslim must make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least one time in their lives. This major new exhibition will chart the history of this journey, exploring how pilgrims have tackled it through the centuries.
