See the London Olympic medals, at the British Museum

to British Museum The British Museum will be hosting a small exhibition showcasing all the medals that can be won at the London Olympics. Also on show will be medals from the 1908 and 1948 London Olympics. The display will tell the complete story of the medals from start to finish, from the mining of the metal to the creation of the designs, to the final casting at the Royal Mint.

That’s all the sports events, but there are lots more outdoor events in London on 3 March including:

“Legally Blonde”, at the Savoy Theatre3 MarchCollege cutie Elle Woods is riding high as the homecoming queen… but hits the ground with a bump when her boyfriend dumps her for someone serious. So Ellie does what all women do when they’re depressed — she hits the shops, and signs up for Harvard Law — proving that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

“She Stoops to Conquer”, at the National Theatre3 March“She Stoops To Conquer” tells the story of Hardcastle, who’s trying to introduce his eligable daughter to his old friend’s son. But his son is crippled with shyness when it comes to wooing the upper classes, and he is tricked into thinking his prospective father-in-law is an old innkeeper, and his daughter is a barmaid.

“The Leisure Society”, at Trafalgar Studios3 March“The Leisure Society” is a fantastically offensive comedy with absolutely no moral compass. When a well-heeled couple invite their friend over for dinner, intending to dump him, they are surprised to find that he turns up with a stunning new beau in tow. The dinner party then descends into a drunken row of revelation and debauchery.

Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” — starring Lenny Henry3 MarchIn this version of William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors”, the staging will be moved to a contemporary setting. In this witty merry-go-round of mistaken identity, much mayhem ensues when two sets of estranged twins find themselves wandering through the streets of the same town.

“Sweeney Todd” — with Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton3 MarchMichael Ball and Imelda Staunton will be starring in Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sweeney Todd”, which tells the tale of Sweeney Todd’s return to London after years of imprisonment. His quest for retribution takes in the local pie-shop owner, who’s meaty recipes aid him in avenging the wrongs done to him and his family.

War photographs by Don McCullin3 MarchDon McCullin is recognised as one of Britain’s greatest war photographers. “Shaped By War” is a major new exhibition which explores both his life and work, and includes over 200 of his finest photographs, many which have not been seen in public.

George Gershwin’s “Crazy For You”3 MarchGeorge Gershwin’s smash-hit musical “Crazy for You” is packed full of classic songs including “I Got Rhythm”, “Someone To Watch Over Me”, “Embraceable You” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It”.

Comedy legend Jackie Mason — his farewell UK show3 MarchJackie Mason is back in town with “Fearless” — his farewell show in the UK. Jackie’s politically incorrect and acerbic wit will be aimed at everything from the ecomony and the US presidential race to the Olympics, David Cameron, and his hilarious take on every day life. As Jackie says, “If it’s in the news, it’s in the show!”

Titian’s “Diana and Callisto”3 MarchThis special exhibition celebrates the National Gallery’s acquisition of Titian’s “Diana and Callisto”. Its companion painting “Diana and Actaeon” was purchased in 2009, and the pair have now been reunited in Room 1. “Diana and Callisto” shows the moment when Diana banishes Callisto after revealing her pregnancy.
