But when the wealthy Duke of Mantua sets his sights on her, the course is set for tragedy.

to Royal Opera House The Royal Opera House is putting on a production of Puccini's operatic swansong, "Turandot", famous for its dramatic aria "Nessun Dorma". The cold-hearted Princess Turandot has sworn that no man shall marry her unless he can correctly answer three riddles. Prince Calaf takes up the challenge, determined to win her heart... or die in the attempt. Turandot will be playing in London this Mar, for a run at the Royal Opera House.

It tells the story of Princess Aurora, cursed on her christening day by the wicked fairy Carabosse. She is doomed to prick her finger on a spindle and die. But a kind fairy tempers the curse so that the Princess will instead fall asleep for 100 years -- and be woken by a handsome prince.

It follows the story of two couples: the poet Rodolfo, who falls in love with the pretty seamstress Mimi, and the painter Marcello, who enjoys the company of his mistress Musetta. The opera's exploration of the joy, anguish and heartbreak of young love blighted by sudden tragedy, and its succession of passionate arias and duets, makes this the ultimate romantic opera.

After Bertarido is driven from his kingdom by Grimoaldo, his wife (Rodelinda) presumes him to be dead. Grimoaldo then threatens to imprison her unless she agrees to marry him... but the exiled king returns in disguise.
