The disturbing story of prejudice and persecution is set in a small fishing village on the coast. Fisherman Peter Grimes already has an uneasy relationship with the other locals, and when his apprentice dies the community assumes that he is guilty. Britten's haunting score rolls around with the churning sea and the changing moods of the landscape, resulting in an opera full of menace and beauty.
