The Brixton Academy is one of London’s leading music and comedy venues, attracting some of the biggest names around. It holds about 3,700 people downstairs (standing up), and another thousand sitting in the circle. For some shows they can convert it into an all-seater venue.

  • princerogers – “Whenever I think of brixton I think of the riots in the 80s, but it's fine. You come out the tube and walk round the corner and there it is, right there. The best thing about the place is the sloping floor which means even the short people like me gets a Decent view of the stage. Best to stand near the back anyway because then you're near the bar and can nip in when you see the queue gone down, otherwise you'll be there queueing for 20 minutes.”
  • AliBell – “If they had more top bands playing here I would go here all the time, because it is the coolest place in London to see a gig. Inside it is amazing with bars and food stands and in the concert bit all the walls are Decorated like they are actual buildings. Definitely stand up if you go because the view is great with the sloping floor so you can see the stage pretty easy and if you sit down everyone just stands up anyway, so you may as well just stand up. And if you sit down its a pain to go to the bar because you have to struggle your way back to the same place, but if you stand up you can just go back to wherever you want. If you stand up try and get next to one of the barriers, because they've got little barriers dotted around the floor, so at least you will have something to lean on. You have to defend it from other people barging next to you though because its mental!.”
  • frankie – “We have been to the brixton academy too many times to mention and we always like it because you see some good bands and it doesnt ever get too crowded. They don't often have the amazing big names (they do sometimes) but have a lot of good ones. But I hate it when a place is so full that you cant even move. Here it is busy but at least you can move about a bit and not have to struggle back to the front of the place if you want a drink. They've got quite a few bars and you can get a Decent view from most places you stand because they've got a sloped floor.”
